Aspen Avionics to add engine monitoring to its Evolution MFDs

Also extends factory warranty to three years

Aspen Avionics is teaming up with Electronics International to develop engine monitoring for Aspen's Evolution multifunction displays. The software-based upgrade will be available for four- and six-cylinder single-engine piston aircraft.

Aspen's Evolution multifunction displays (MFD500 MAX and MFD1000MAX) will soon be able to display engine instrumentation (center view) as a user-selectable frame that can also display the moving map (left) and aeronautical chart (right) in the same area. Images courtesy of Aspen Avionics.

The engine monitoring feature, expected to be available mid-2025, will display critical engine data on Aspen's Evolution MFD500 MAX and MFD1000 MAX MFDs.

The new software will enable Aspen displays to pair with the EDC-33P engine data converter and sensors from Electronics International and allow owners to remove old primary engine instruments such as RPM, manifold pressure, exhaust and cylinder head temperatures, fuel level, oil temperature and pressure, electrical current, fuel low, fuel pressure, and turbine inlet temperature gauges.

"Partnering with a trusted and capable organization like Electronics International to provide an engine instrumentation solution for new Aspen installations and aircraft already equipped with Aspen displays continues to demonstrate our commitment to providing aircraft owners an upgrade path for new functions without having to invest thousands in new avionics equipment," said Mark Ferrari, Aspen Avionics vice president of sales and customer support.

"The need for off airplane data is growing. Pilots want that data," said John Uczekaj, Aspen Avionics president and CEO. "The unique thing about our platform is that we will be able to sync up engine data with flight data and [attitude heading and reference system] data that will now allow you to correlate your engine instruments with how you're flying your aircraft."

Aspen also announced a one-year extension on its Evolution MAX and E5 display factory warranty, increasing it from two to three years with unlimited transferable coverage. The expanded warranty covers all system components and has no flight hour limitation. "This is a good deal for our customers, and a big vote of confidence in the reliability of our platform and big thing for keeping the cost of flying down because things happen, and they often happen the day after your warranty expires," said Uczekaj. The new factory warranty is effective immediately but will not retroactively apply to previously purchased systems.

Founded in 2004, Aspen is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. Aspen's breakthrough product was the Evolution 1000 primary flight display. It was designed to be installed in existing 3.25-inch panel holes without modifications, significantly reducing installation cost. This retrofit replaced traditional six-pack mechanical instruments with electronic alternatives, reducing weight while enhancing situational awareness.

Aspen Avionics is part of The AIRO Group, which is composed of four divisions: advanced avionics, electric air mobility, uncrewed air systems, and training. Other AIRO brands include Jaunt Air Mobility, Sky-Watch, and Coastal Defense.
