Foreflight acquires CloudAhoy

ForeFlight, the creator of a popular flight planning and navigation app for general aviation (and more recently a Boeing company), has acquired CloudAhoy and will integrate all of CloudAhoy’s data management capabilities into ForeFlight.

ForeFlight customers have already been using CloudAhoy’s postflight debriefing analytics by uploading their ForeFlight GPS data into CloudAhoy to enable in-depth analysis of their flight. Now, thanks to ForeFlight’s recent acquisition, pilots will have all of CloudAhoy’s advanced capabilities and products within Foreflight, creating what the company calls a “seamless digital ecosystem that touches all phases of flight.”

CloudAhoy was founded in 2011 and provides postflight debriefing, analytics, and flight operations quality assurance software for flight training, business, and military aviation. The program allows users to get an in-depth look at specific phases of flight such as instrument approaches or steep turns. It displays bank angle, speed, altitude variations, and the flight path relative to a published approach.

The acquisition of CloudAhoy is part of Boeing Global Services’ strategy to expand digital solutions for its customers. “These new capabilities, in combination with existing offerings across Global Services’ digital and training businesses, highlight our commitment to providing innovative solutions that improve pilot training and enhance safety,” said Brad Surak, vice president of digital aviation solutions for Boeing Global Services. “We will continue to strategically invest in capabilities that we believe will strengthen our digital solutions portfolio to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our customers.”

The companies did not disclose the terms of the transaction.
