You don’t need to travel across the globe to experience some of the world’s most spectacular sights and stunning landscapes. Lush forests, endless deserts, and breathtaking mountain ranges can be found in our very own backyard—America’s National Parks. Filled with natural wonders, and spanning some 27 states, our national parks attract millions of visitors each year.
And while most people opt to travel by car, or RV, using the local airport is another option for us pilots. So, if you’re looking to take an adventurous trip to see our parks, encounter some wildlife, or camp out under the stars, make sure you take the scenic route from above. Here’s some of our picks for the most beautiful national parks and their nearby airports.
Glacier National Park: Start your flight plan now! The best time to visit Glacier is June-September in order to get the best glimpse of its glacier peaks, alpine meadows, and diverse wildlife. With more than 700 miles of trails, Glacier is adventurers’ paradise. Pilots can fly into Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) in Kalispell, Montana for the closest commute.
Don’t skip: Going to the Sun road
Zion National Park: Located in southwest Utah, Zion National Park is home to two of the most popular hikes in North America—Angel’s Landing and the Narrows. Visitors to Zion can expect amazing hikes, slot canyons, and tons of hiking. Visit during the offseason in winter to avoid massive crowds to this popular park. Airports nearby include St. George Regional Airport (SGU)—just one hour away from Zion.

Olympic National Park: Spanning nearly one million acres, Olympic National Park is filled with several different ecosystems—including a temperate rain forest and Pacific coastline. Tucked away in the heart of the PNW, Olympic receives roughly 150 inches of rainfall annually—making it one of the wettest regions in the continental U.S. Pilots looking to visit Olympic can stop at William R. Fairchild International Airport (CLM) just 22 miles from the park.
Don’t Skip: Hoh Rainforest
Grand Canyon: As one of the seven wonders of the world, it’s no wonder the Grand Canyon attracts roughly 5.9 million visitors per year. The park has scenic hikes, mule rides, helicopter tours, and whitewater rafting in the Colorado River below. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) is just a short trek away!
