Continental Aerospace Technologies is developing a supplemental type certificate to make the Continental IO-370 certified engine available to a variety of Piper airframes.
The IO-370, a four-cylinder, 180-horsepower engine, rated at 2,700 rpm, is known for dependable performance and easy installation. The STC will initially be designed for model year 2018 and newer Piper Archer LX, TX, and Pilot 100i aircraft. Once certified, Piper Archer owners and operators will have an additional engine option that is backed by Continental’s experience and its commitment to customer service. The STC also expands Continental’s visibility in the flight training and general aviation market.
After a first successful flight in June, testing is ongoing while Continental prepares to apply for FAA certification, which is anticipated by the end of the year.
"Through initiatives like this, Continental continues to deliver innovative, practical, and factory-supported solutions that help aircraft owners maximize aircraft performance, reliability, and long-term operational value," the company said in a news release.
In other news, Continental announced an extended warranty coverage for its certified avgas engine portfolio. It applies to "all eligible certified AvGas engine orders shipped on or after July 20," according to that press release. Continental also announced expanded warranty coverage for Continental and Lycoming overhauls performed at Continental Services, the factory service center in Fairhope, Alabama, effective July 20.
