Triple Tree Aerodrome boasts a 7,000-by-400-foot runway, believed to be the longest grass runway in the United States. It is so smooth and perfectly mown, aircraft of all varieties fly in each year including Piper Cubs to Cessna 172s, Cirrus SR22s, Pilatus PC–12s, a North American P–51 Mustang, a Douglas DC–3, and many more. This will be the eighteenth annual event.
Triple Tree is a fly-in where flying, socializing, camping, and eating rule. Attendees gather in pockets across the sprawling 400-acre facility to watch endless takeoffs, landings, and fly-bys. Each night homemade meals are served at the Main Hangar and afterward attendees drift off to campsites and RVs to share hangar stories late into the night.
AOPA offers an “oasis” from the usual high heat at this Southern state event with an air-conditioned tent featuring big screen televisions broadcasting college football games and meet-and-greets with AOPA staff. AOPA President and CEO Darren Pleasance will present a Pilot Town Hall and offer his vision for his administration and the future of general aviation.
