The Flight School Association of North America will host its fourth annual Designated Pilot Examiners Symposium on November 12 through 14 at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Marriott in Irving, Texas.
The symposium will convene in the midst of the FAA’s ongoing effort to reverse the shortage of DPEs. On September 10 the FAA’s roster included 1,094 active DPEs.
Registration for the event that brings together DPEs, flight school operators, chief flight instructors, and FAA representatives began October 22. Participants can look forward to three days of communication, training, “and professional development focused on advancing pilot certification and testing,” according to a press release.
FSANA President and CEO Robert Rockmaker said, “This event helps ensure DPEs have the tools, knowledge, and collaboration they need to maintain consistency, fairness, and excellence in pilot testing nationwide.”
On the first two days, November 12 and 13, FSANA offers sessions on helping DPEs to execute their tasks in keeping with evolving FAA guidance; applicant scheduling; regulatory updates including Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC); and tips and tricks on how to use the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application, a web-based tool that guides a user through the FAA’s airman application process, and the Designee Management System. Separate sessions will cover topics like becoming a DPE, offering advice for both examiners and newcomers.
DPE Jason Blair said, “The FSANA DPE Symposium is the best opportunity for DPEs to get together and share what they know and make us all better at our jobs. It’s also a unique opportunity to meet with senior FAA staff who work with DPEs. I wouldn’t miss this event.”
Attendees may register in advance after October 17 for $995; on-site admission is $1,145 per person. By joining FSANA, participants are eligible for a $200 discount that exceeds the $150 cost for FSANA membership. Regular admission for FSANA members is $795, and on-site admission is $945.
