The Cessna Citation Longitude joined a growing list of aircraft approved to install Starlink service as the SpaceX subsidiary enables a mix of commercial airliners and general aviation aircraft—primarily though not exclusively business jets—to access its orbital broadband network.
Textron Aviation announced October 10—just ahead of the National Business Aviation Association's Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition—that AeroMech's supplemental type certificate to install Starlink on the Longitude has been approved. The after-market installation package includes an antenna, power supply, and a wireless access point, and requires only power from the aircraft.
Starlink supports download speeds of 100 to 250 megabits per second, with upload speeds up to 25 Mbps, the company reports on its website. Service starts at $2,000 a month for a 20GB business plan, or $10,000 a month for unlimited data. Starlink utilizes its own low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation to provide high-speed data capability anywhere on (or above) the planet.
