Blimps and footballs

Arrive early for some fun

Before the AOPA Fly-In at the Props and Pistons Festival in Akron, Ohio, opens its gates on August 16 and 17, AOPA is offering exciting tours of two landmark attractions.

Arrive in Akron on August 15 and treat yourself to an excursion stopping for an exclusive guided tour at the Goodyear Wingfoot Lake facility. This is a rare opportunity to see the gentle giants of the air, also known as Goodyear blimps, up close and personal; learn about their history and what it takes to fly them around the country; and check out the huge hangar they’re kept in. This Goodyear facility is not normally open to the public.

A second stop will get you to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to pay tribute to pro football’s greatest players, see the Hall of Fame Gallery with mementos and artifacts from games past, visit the Hall of Famer Lockers, enjoy interactive experiences, and more.

You can pick one of two departures, leaving from Summit Air Services at the Akron Fulton International Airport. Tours begin at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and end at 2.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m., respectively. Both cover the Goodyear Wingfoot Lake facility and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tickets are $10 per person and cover transport to and from the venues. The guided tour at Goodyear is free; tickets for the Pro Football Hall of Fame tour will need to be purchased on-site at a discounted rate.

Then you can spend the next two days at the fly-in. Sound good? Book your place on the tour here.
