AOPA STATEMENT ON JANUARY 29 MIDAIR COLLISION BETWEEN AN AMERICAN AIRLINES CRJ700 AND A U.S. ARMY H-60 BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER NEAR RONALD REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT
FREDERICK, Md., January 30, 2025—AOPA sends its condolences to the families affected in the tragic January 29 accident involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a United States Army Blackhawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
While the airspace around Reagan National Airport is complex, there are established procedures to separate commercial and military helicopter traffic that share the airspace. AOPA eagerly awaits the results of the NTSB investigation to determine the cause of the midair collision and will disseminate any learnings to the general aviation pilots AOPA represents.
