Dynon autopilot approved for Mooney M20J, M20K

Dynon Avionics said the FAA approved its Dynon Certified autopilot for use in Mooney M20J and M20K models. With the approval, the Mooney models join Cessna 182 and 172, Beechcraft Bonanza 35 and 36 series, and Piper Seneca models on a growing list of certified aircraft that can use the Dynon system.

The three-axis autopilot, which includes a yaw damper, is available as an option with the company’s SkyView HDX avionics system and can fly approaches when coupled with a third-party navigator. The system can be acquired through any Dynon authorized installation center, and pilots can purchase the system directly and have it installed by a qualified shop.

The base price of the autopilot system is $6,434 for the Mooney aircraft. The cost includes servo harnesses, brackets, and other hardware. Options include the SkyView autopilot control panel, which costs $644 and gives dedicated controls to the pilot, and the $335 knob control panel, which includes knobs for adjusting autopilot settings including altitude, heading, track, and altimeter.

Dynon’s growth in the avionics market broadens the range of options for the many pilots seeking to update their panels. The company said it continues to pursue autopilot approvals for additional aircraft.
