Build an airplane in one week at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

No build experience? Help pick the paint scheme or become a homebuilding ambassador

Sonex Aircraft seeks volunteers, ambassadors, and members of the general aviation community to play a part in making the Waiex-B One Week Wonder come to life at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in July.

Popular kitplane manufacturer Sonex Aircraft will be front and center at this year’s EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The company’s Waiex-B aircraft has been named the One Week Wonder and will be assembled in seven days by AirVenture attendees and Sonex employees.

The One Week Wonder is a time-tested tradition conceived to showcase how quickly many hands can collaborate to create an aircraft. In 2015, the completed One Week Wonder made an appearance at the AOPA Fly-In in Frederick, Maryland, and further successful efforts followed.

Sonex needs volunteers to keep the streak alive. Whether it’s bucking a rivet, hanging the engine, or talking to visitors about how to get involved in the homebuilding community, there is a role for almost everyone. Interested volunteers can sign up on Sonex’s website.

In addition to seeking volunteers during the Waiex-B build process at AirVenture, the Experimental Aircraft Association has kicked off a paint-picking contest for the aircraft. Paint schemes can be voted on online, or in person at the Sonex booth at Sun ’n Fun Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, Florida, or throughout the week at EAA AirVenture. The winning paint scheme will be announced during the build process at EAA AirVenture.
