Peach State Aerodrome’s youth aviation program founded by the late airline pilot, entrepreneur, and aviation mentor Ron Alexander has been renamed in his honor. The Ron Alexander Youth Aviation Program in Williamson, Georgia, supports his mission of “inspiring and guiding youth,” said Cayla McLeod, a private pilot who was introduced to aviation by the Delta Air Lines pilot. The program has awarded 21 scholarships since its inception in 2013. Twenty-two students have soloed, 14 students have earned a private pilot certificate, and one went on to become an A&P mechanic. In addition, students can benefit from five local scholarships provided by friends of the airfield, said youth co-director A.C. Hutson.
