Hartzell Propeller acquires Tanis Aircraft Products

Hartzell Propeller announced July 13 that it had acquired the assets of Tanis Aircraft Products, a popular engine preheat manufacturing company.

The move expands Hartzell’s line of heated products to include “systems for propeller de-ice, piston engine preheat, turbine engine preheat, helicopter preheat, battery, avionics, and cabin preheat,” the company said in a news release.

“We were impressed with Tanis’ exceptional quality, laser focus on safety, passion for aviation, and fit with Hartzell. We continue to look for opportunities to make direct, long-term investments in value-added manufacturing companies that complement our existing portfolio or leverage core competencies,” said Hartzell Propeller President JJ Frigge.

With the acquisition, Tanis manufacturing operations will move to Hartzell’s Piqua, Ohio, headquarters and manufacturing facility while Tanis administrative staff, sales representatives, and engineers will remain at its Minneapolis base.

The announcement comes two weeks after Frigge talked about Hartzell’s new propeller designs during an in-depth AOPA Pilot Lounge interview with AOPA Editor in Chief Tom Haines.
