Beringer releases new shock wheel, ultralight tailwheel

Beringer Aero is offering its Shock Wheel HL for experimental airplanes weighing up to 3,000 pounds after its success with a similar wheel in the ultralight and light sport markets. The company is working on obtaining certification for the Shock Wheel HL for Cessna taildraggers.

The Shock Wheel HL features two “oleo-pneumatic shocks per side with anti-bounce, anti-roll and high energy absorption capabilities” for operations in rough environments.

In addition, Beringer said it will be offering an ultralight rubber tailwheel for Van’s Aircraft RVs, certain aerobatic aircraft, and the French-built Jodel.

Beringer also announced its new SensAIR system to check the pressure and temperature of the tires from a mobile app or reader. A sensor is integrated into the tire and is active only when in use by the app or reader, which should provide a battery life of two to three years, the company said. SensAIR will be available in October. The cost for three wheels with the sensors is about $600, Beringer said. The app is free.
