You’re invited: Honor aviation’s best at the Bob Hoover Trophy reception
Honor the late R. A. “Bob” Hoover and celebrate those in the aviation industry who are carrying on his legacy during the 2019 AOPA R. A. "Bob" Hoover Trophy Reception at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport's historic terminal in Washington, D.C., on March 20.
The trophy will be presented to Clay Lacy for his contributions to aviation, his support of young people in aviation careers, and the inspiration he has been to so many pilots. Lacy’s formidable aviation career includes airline captain, military aviator, experimental test pilot, air race champion, world-record setter, aerial cinematographer, and business aviation entrepreneur. He has flown more than 300 aircraft types, logged more than 50,000 flight hours, and accumulated more hours flying turbine aircraft than any other pilot in the world.
In addition, AOPA will present the Joseph B. “Doc” Hartranft Jr. Award to Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) for his leadership and support of general aviation, and the Laurence P. Sharples Perpetual Award to Hawaii State Sen. Kai Kahele for his work in collaborating with AOPA to establish the first Aviation Caucus in Hawaii, which he chairs. The General Aviation Safety Award will be presented to Tyson Weihs and Jason Miller of ForeFlight.
The Gatsby Gang Jazz Band will perform during the reception. The cocktail event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and costs $120 per person. Purchase tickets and register online.
