If you plan to come to one of the AOPA Fly-Ins in 2019, here are a few reasons why you might want to volunteer part of your time to help behind the scenes.
Be part of a team: Take pride in knowing you will help us pull off a top-notch, professional aviation event. You’ll work with AOPA staff members as well as fellow volunteers to keep everything running smoothly. We’ll make you an “Honorary Outreach Team Member” while you work with our fun (and a little crazy) Outreach Department. Because you’ll be part of the team, you don’t have to worry about being forgotten somewhere in a faraway aircraft parking field. We regularly stop by to offer drinks and snacks, and check in to make sure you are OK. When it’s time for your volunteer shift to end, we’ll have another volunteer ready to take your spot.
Make lasting connections: Now we can’t promise this for everyone, but for two volunteers, one of our past fly-ins served as another chance encounter that helped their love blossom. More often, you’ll make lasting friendships and contacts in the aviation industry.
Free stuff: Just to show you how much we appreciate your help at the fly-in, we’ll feed you while you are on duty and give you a volunteer T-shirt and hat.
We need 350 volunteers at each event! Learn more about volunteering at one (or more) of our fly-ins at Frederick, Maryland, May 10 and 11; Livermore, California, June 21 and 22; and Tullahoma, Tennessee, Sept. 13 and 14. And if you know someone who is under 18 who would be interested in volunteering, have them download the parental consent form and get their parent or legal guardian to sign it. Signed forms can be sent to AOPA via email.
