Airframes Alaska buys Alaska Tent and Tarp

Airframes Alaska is becoming a one-stop manufacturer when it comes to equipping pilots and their aircraft for backcountry flying.

The company manufactures aircraft parts including fuselages, control surfaces, pedals, and more, as well as tailwheels and tundra tires through its Alaskan Bushwheels arm, at its hangars on the Birchwood Airport in Chugiak, Alaska. Now, the company will produce tents and other products suited for outdoor adventures once pilots have landed in the backcountry.

In October, the company announced that it had acquired Alaska Tent and Tarp in a move to “fit with our long-term vision,” Airframes Alaska CEO Heather Montgomery said in a news release. “Our goal is to more completely outfit our customers who work, live and recreate in the backcountry.”

The products from Alaska Tent and Tarp will be produced in Fairbanks and Anchorage, and Airframes Alaska said it plans to expand the backcountry product offerings. Alaska Tent and Tarp had been a family-owned business for more than 60 years.

Airframes Alaska donated several parts to the AOPA Sweepstakes Super Cub’s restoration, including handmade 26-inch Alaskan Bushwheels.
