L3 Commercial Aviation announced at EAA AirVenture a free software upgrade for its Lynx NGT-9000 Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Out (ADS-B Out) transponder. The new Release 3.2 software provides performance, start-up, and compatibility enhancements for the transponder and its integral display system. Current Lynx operators can visit their installation centers for the free upgrade, which will be incorporated in all new systems.
“We continue to invest and broaden the reach of the Lynx NGT-9000 with these Release 3.2 enhancements, including the introduction of an interface with the Genesys IDU-680 EFIS, as well as other upgrades,” said Shane LaPlante, vice president of sales and marketing at ACSS, a business unit within L3 Commercial Aviation. “Lynx is a turnkey solution for general aviation aircraft and Part 27 rotorcraft, providing enhanced situational awareness, ATAS traffic alerting below 500 feet, safety and ADS-B compliance.”
The Lynx NGT-9000 Release 3.2 enhancements accelerate performance and reduce satellite acquisition time of the unit’s integral GPS position source at start-up; provide compatibility with the Genesys Aerosystems IDU-680 Electronic Flight Instrument System; and add support for dual control panel configuration—a capability sought by military and high-end civilian training operations.
“We continue to invest in the Lynx product,” said LaPlante, adding that interest in ADS-B equipment had been very high at the show.
The NGT-9000 is ready to receive the new Flight Information Services-Broadcast (FIS-B) products that the FAA is rolling out this fall, LaPlante added. “The box is capable. We process the information and spit it out on the Wi-fi,” for immediate display on a tablet or electronic flight bag. The product’s next software update will allow display of the new products on the NGT-9000’s integral touchscreen, he said.
And L3 is continuing its program with Aspen Avionics, which provides discounts when an NGT-9000 is bundled with the purchase of an Aspen Evolution display.
