Baker to be inducted into Living Legends of Aviation

What do Harrison Ford, John Travolta, and AOPA President and CEO Mark Baker have in common? No, they aren’t starring in a remake of Indiana Jones, but they all share a love for aviation and on Jan.19, Baker will join the ranks of aviation’s greatest influencers by being inducted into the Living Legends of Aviation.

Hosted by John Travolta, the fifteenth annual awards ceremony will take place in Beverly Hills, California, where the star-studded event will be a night to celebrate life, aviation, and contributions to the aerospace industry.

Kiddie Hawk Air Academy, a nonprofit dedicated to sparking children’s interests in aviation, produces the awards as its annual fundraiser.

And this isn’t the first time Baker will suit up to attend the black-tie ceremony. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Harrison Ford Legacy in Aviation Award for his contributions to general aviation and as leader of the world’s largest aviation association.

Other honorees include GE Aviation President and CEO David Joyce, who will receive the Lifetime Industry Award; Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Director General J.R. “Jack” Dailey, who will be retiring in January, will receive the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Award; Bigelow Aerospace Founder Robert Bigelow will receive the Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award; and businessman H. Ross Perot Jr. will be inducted into the Living Legends of Aviation alongside Baker.

But it’s not all glitz and glam as the 2018 ceremony will remember the late astronaut Gene Cernan, better known as the “last man to walk the moon.” Cernan died just days before the event last year. Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who considered Cernan his childhood hero and inspiration, will pay tribute in a speech.

Tickets to the awards ceremony and after party are available for purchase on the Living Legends website.
