Garmin expands navigation coverage

South America database added

If a trip to Brazil or beyond is in your future, Garmin International has added South America to the lineup of navigation databases available for a range of avionics and mobile devices.

Garmin is integrating South America coverage into the Americas OnePak subscription bundle, which offers navigation database coverage of North and Central America (with South America to be integrated soon) and is compatible with aircraft-mounted Garmin avionics as well as various portable devices. An annual OnePak subscription costs $724, including the navigation database, terrain database, airport directory, VFR and IFR charts, obstacle database, and the SafeTaxi database. Purchase of a OnePak also provides Garmin Pilot subscribers with an upgrade to Garmin Pilot IFR that includes the South America data.

South America navigation data can also be purchased as a stand-alone for $149 for a one-time purchase, or $399 for a one-year subscription. Garmin’s navigation databases (including the OnePak plan) are compatible with GNS 430W/530W navigators, as well as the firm’s more recent systems and avionics suites and a range of portable devices as well.

“Given the tremendous success of the Garmin Navigation Database, we’re excited to expand coverage even further to South America,” said Carl Wolf, vice president of aviation marketing and sales, in a press release. “This expanded coverage offers pilots a cost-effective alternative that can be packaged with other databases to provide pilots with all of the information they need in a single aircraft for an entire year—at one low price.”
