End of runway not a welcome mat for homes, AOPA says

Housing developments just don't make good runway approach lighting systems. But the Hermosa Ranch development proposal would plunk 32 houses along Wickenburg Municipal Airport's extended runway centerline and less than a mile from the end of the runway. AOPA has written Wickenburg Mayor Ron Badowski to oppose the development's proposed location. Building houses in that area would pose a hazard to pilots and residents on the ground, create noise complaints, and threaten the airport's $8.4 million in federal investments for improvements. AOPA also reminded the city that the FAA has expressed its concern about the proposal.
