AOPA President Phil Boyer and Rep. Hal Rogers |
Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers (R-Ky.) was formally honored Tuesday by AOPA President Phil Boyer for his dedication to general aviation. Among other things, Rep. Rogers has been a staunch supporter of AOPA's Airport Watch program.
Boyer also used the opportunity to update Rep. Rogers on the status of the program, including the new materials and DVD centered on the theme, "Lock up - look out." Packages were distributed to the entire GA community at the end of last year.
Boyer presented Rep. Rogers with AOPA's prestigious 2006 J.B. "Doc" Hartranft Award at his Washington, D.C., office. It was officially announced at AOPA Expo last fall, but the congressman wasn't able to attend because of a scheduling conflict.
"Hal has been a longtime supporter of GA," Boyer said. "We have always found him willing to listen to our concerns and our ideas. His steadfast support and commitment to general aviation programs have strengthened the aviation community across the country."
Rep. Rogers is the longest serving Kentucky Republican ever elected to federal office and has a reputation as a skillful insider with significant influence over federal budget policy in a wide range of areas, including appropriations for GA projects.
Rep. Rogers recognizes that to continue the progress of homeland security, tools need to be provided and that Airport Watch is one of those tools. He understands that the industry itself can develop appropriate ways to address the security issue.
