UL100E is currently undergoing testing through the FAA’s Piston Aircraft Fuel Initiative (PAFI) across a range of aircraft and engines. Publication of an ASTM test specification allows that work to continue under a structured, industry-recognized framework focused on safety, performance, and compatibility with the existing fleet.
“This is a meaningful milestone as the aviation industry continues to make progress toward an unleaded future,” said AOPA President and CEO Darren Pleasance. “We congratulate VP Racing and LyondellBasell for the work they’ve done and for contributing to the momentum needed to deliver safe and reliable solutions for general aviation.”
PAFI is a collaborative program involving the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), aircraft and engine manufacturers, fuel developers, and industry stakeholders, including AOPA. Testing of UL100E is ongoing, and results are expected to inform future FAA decisions regarding fleet authorization and any associated operational or engine considerations.
AOPA continues to work closely with fuel developers, industry partners, and the FAA to meet a goal of moving toward an unleaded future by the end of 2030 in the continental United States and 2032 in Alaska.
