Certified aircraft equipped with the uAvionix AV-30-C can now wirelessly receive flight plans and enhance navigation capability.
Pilots flying with the uAvionix AV-30-C can now send flight plans directly from ForeFlight to their panel and, in some installations, have the autopilot follow those routes. Software version 3.2.1 brings the tablet-to-panel integration to certified aircraft for the first time, expanding a capability that had previously been limited to experimental aircraft.
The change reduces the need to manually enter or revise flight plans using panel controls, particularly during cross-country flights or when responding to air traffic control reroutes. Pilots can modify a route on their iPad and the updated flight path will appear on the AV-30-C, allowing the autopilot to follow the revised course.
The AV-30-C relies on a position source such as the iPad's internal GPS or an external ADS-B receiver to enable ForeFlight-based navigation. While it can display course guidance and support autopilot steering, it does not replace certified GPS navigation required for instrument approaches that depend on approved navigation sources.
The new software update also expands the unit's situational awareness tools, including traffic display. The ForeFlight integration further offers a more streamlined way to manage flight plans and reduce pilot workload without installing a full panel GPS.
