Chino Airport (CNO) in San Bernadino County, California, has everything visitors could want in a public-use airport. From three lengthy runways, flight schools, plenty of transient parking, a star-studded aviation museum, and warbirds galore, pilots have their pick of things to see and do. But when it’s time to break for lunch, pilots and visitors agree, Flo’s is the place to go.
Flo’s Café is unapologetically no-frills. This quintessential airport diner has been filling bellies and hearts with their country cooking, plethora of pies, and a sense of belonging that’s felt the moment you walk in the door.
From the linoleum floors to the vinyl tables, everything in Flo’s is exactly what you’d expect and want in a hometown diner. Never lacking a smile and sense of humor, the staff is warm and friendly and food service is fast, delicious, and hearty. Flo’s has been the local rendezvous of the Chino aviation community since 1963.
The large laminated blue and white menus are on brand and feature breakfasts, lunches, and interesting aviation facts. Breakfast options include everything from “Farmhand Feasts” of steak and eggs to breakfast burritos, pancakes, omelets, and oatmeal. For lunch, one of Flo’s famous patty melts with crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside fries and a side of pickles, or a burger that’s so tall it arrives with a knife stabbed through the middle, is sure to stick to your bones. You would think the menu’s gargantuan size would be enough to fit the diner’s pie menu, but you’d be wrong. Flo’s list of pies is so expansive it needs almost an entire wall. The problem here isn’t if they have your favorite pie, but that they have all your favorite pies.
Flo’s is nothing fancy, it doesn’t try too hard, and isn’t pretentious. It’s a classic airport diner, plain and simple.
