Cessna 310Q N310BS

In addition to puppy rescues, my Cessna allows me to meet some lovely people and get to know their stories.

1978 Beechcraft Baron B55 Colemill President II

I love my airplane because it allows me to cruise at 200 knots and gets me where I need to be with a smile. My favorite trips are with my son, who now has about 100 hours logged in the Baron.

1961 N35 Bonanza

I wanted a good cross-country airplane that was IFR-equipped, fast, comfortable, and long-legged, and “My Aluminum Mistress” has fit those requirements very well. From my home base in north central Oklahoma, I can reach anywhere in the lower 48 states in a day’s flying, with just one fuel stop. To date I have logged almost 2,100 hours flying her, which includes about 165 Angel Flight missions. I am pictured here with my friends Teresa and Bo.

Zenith CH801

N733YD (a.k.a. the good ship Rollerskate) is my retirement airplane. I am not in a hurry to get anywhere anymore, but to enjoy the trip. It has great load hauling, short-field capability, 500-nm range, and Garmin/Dynon glass. It’s a bit sensitive in pitch and a bit heavy in roll, but that is the small price for landing on a dime. It is versatile; one day hauling relief supplies, another day on the gravel bar of an Alaskan river, and great fun flying Young Eagles. Because it is a bit different, people stop and ask about it, and before you know it, I have another new friend.

Cessna 185

Taking a break at Big Creek Mountain Canyon Flying (72Q) during the Mountain Canyon Flying course out of McCall, Idaho, after 54 landings and approaches in three days with three different instructors. It was an invaluable experience. I bought this 185 in Big Creek 10 years ago, and love the places it has taken me, my wife, and our border collies. But the best part is the people we’ve met as a result.
