ForeFlight has launched its Insurance Fair Price Tool, designed to provide aircraft owners more transparency into aircraft insurance pricing, which the company calls “one of the most opaque financial aspects of aircraft ownership today.”
The tool, which is in open beta status, is available via ForeFlight Web. It uses insurance policy data that pilots have shared anonymously, along with each pilot’s aircraft and flight experience information, to arrive at a range of expected insurance premiums based on similar pilot profiles. The system allows users to see where their policy premium ranks compared to other pilots with similar particulars, and also shows factors that might affect the user’s premiums.
“Insurance costs have increased in recent years, and many pilots don’t know if they’re getting a fair deal. This is a big step toward bringing more transparency to an outdated, inconsistent system,” said Tim Schuetze, CEO of ForeFlight.
“We’ve worked with hundreds of aircraft owners for several months in developing this tool,” said Henrik Hansen, chief technology officer at ForeFlight. “The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. Pilots appreciate having a way to gain clarity on one of their biggest ongoing expenses. We’re excited to use our data-driven technology to help.”
The tool is a product of ForeFlight Labs, which also developed the company’s Voyager airplane spotting app for Apple Vision Pro in 2024, and ForeFlight’s first artificial intelligence-powered system for generating summaries of airport comments shared by pilots.
The insurance tool is available online to anyone with a ForeFlight Web account.
