Hartzell Propeller Inc. announced January 13 supplemental type certificate approval has been granted to install the 54-pound propeller on Cessnas equipped with Continental O-470-50, IO-520, and IO-550 engines.

The Carbon Voyager is nearly 21 pounds lighter than the metal version, and certified for unlimited life with a six-year, 2,400-hour time between overhauls. The warranty extends through the first overhaul, Hartzell noted. The company reports that Carbon Voyager installation improves aircraft performance, with a reduction of up to 4 percent in takeoff distance and a similar increase in climb performance.

Depending on the particulars, the propeller diameter ranges from 80 to 86 inches. Customers are advised to contact Hartzell for pricing, and the company noted that it will continue a $1,000 discount offer on backcountry propellers for members of the Recreational Aviation Foundation, along with a $250 donation to that organization for each propeller sold.
