Carbon Cub UL 'game-changer'

The constant-speed Kestrel announced February 25 is the first of the Falcon composite propeller series and is available from CubCrafters through the new aircraft builder assist program, or directly from Hartzell.

The lightweight propeller creates an upgrade option for Rotax 916 aircraft, including the Carbon Cub UL (which AOPA Pilot Editor at Large Dave Hirschman flew in 2024), improving the short-field performance of the backcountry light sport aircraft that is the first to be fitted with the Kestrel.

“Hartzell’s Kestrel propeller is a game-changer for the Carbon Cub UL,” said CubCrafters President and CEO Pat Horgan, in a Hartzell news release. “It delivers superior handling, improved takeoff and climb performance, and a 3-4 knot increase in cruise speed compared to other propellers—all while maintaining a lightweight design. Plus, it looks fantastic on the aircraft.”

While composite, the Kestrel does not qualify for the AOPA member-exclusive $1,000 discount on Hartzell Top Prop supplemental type certificated propellers for certified aircraft announced earlier in February.
