FAA launches annual GA activity survey

The FAA has emailed invitations (to be mailed February 14) to individual aircraft owners to respond online to the forty-seventh annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey and provide data that informs a range of policy decisions. AOPA encourages members to participate.

Emails sent February 10 include a link to the survey and will be followed by postcards mailed on February 14.

Responses to the survey are voluntary and confidential. The data is used in aggregate form to calculate accident rates, measure the effects of safety initiatives and technologies, estimate the cost of compliance with airworthiness directives, and determine funding for infrastructure and service upgrades, among other purposes. The GA survey is the only source of information that the FAA has to accurately estimate hours flown, the number of active aircraft of various types, and other key metrics about the fleet. Survey responses also help the FAA and other agencies calculate GA's economic impact.

The FAA is staggering the launch of the survey this year and plans to send survey invitations to fleet aircraft operators in March.

The results of previous surveys are available online.
