Decommissioning of Alaska NDB/DME proposed

The FAA is looking for input from the aviation community regarding the prospect of decommissioning the nondirectional beacon and distance measuring equipment at Iliamna Airport.

According to the FAA, the station has been out of service for an extended period and attempts to repair the aging equipment have failed. The permanent loss of this station will result in removal of the Iliamna NDB Runway 36 approach, the only non-GPS procedure to the airport. It will also result in removal of a segment of Victor 457 between Kenai and Iliamna.
