EAA will pay tribute to the heroes and sacrifices made during the Normandy landings on D-Day (June 6, 1944) with an 80-year “Turning the Tide” commemoration. A collection of C–47s from the D-Day Squadron will be on display as part of the commemoration. The C–47 played a vital role in transporting more than 13,000 paratroopers to Utah Beach for the Normandy landings. Afternoon airshows will feature warbirds from both the Pacific and European theaters, including the World War II Airborne Demonstration Team. The team will be jumping from the C–47 using traditional round canopy parachutes, reminiscent of the paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions in Normandy.
- The world’s only two flying examples of the Boeing B–29 Superfortress will make a rare joint appearance during the “Turning the Tide” salute to 1944 commemorating the anniversary of D-Day. It is believed to be only the fourth time two B–29s have made a joint public appearance in 50 years, and it is the first time these aircraft have appeared together since 2018. The Boeing B–29 Doc will host flight experience rides and will be a featured performer at the airshow. The warbird will be on display for ground and cockpit tours on Boeing Plaza.
The seventy-first EAA AirVenture convention will take place July 22 through 28, 2024.
- The Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), the organization that develops, delivers, and sustains nearly every U.S. Air Force weapon system, will be highlighted this year. AFMC displays will highlight the development and transition of technology, how weapon systems are tested and sustained, as well as a variety of hands-on STEM activities. The U.S. Air Force’s Band of Flight will also perform during the week.
- Burt Rutan, whose innovative designs range from homebuilt aircraft to space vehicles, will conduct forums coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of his VariEze canard aircraft design.
- Starlight Aerial Productions will bring its spectacular displays to the night airshows. Up to 500 drones will take to the sky for the performances during AirVenture’s night airshows.
- Frecce Tricolori, the military aerobatic team representing the Italian Air Force (ITAF), will make its first Oshkosh appearance since 1986. The team, formally known as the 313th Aerobatic Training Squadron, is scheduled to be at Oshkosh as part of the third North American tour in its history. With the demonstrations from the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, it marks the first time that the EAA fly-in will have two military demonstration teams in a single year at the event.
