AOPA'S AIR SAFETY INSTITUTE RELEASES NEW REAL PILOT STORY

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Air Safety Institute (ASI) has released a new episode of its popular Real Pilot Story video series.

In the latest video, Real Pilot Story: The Heat of the Moment, a couple shares lessons learned and the circumstances that led to an accident shortly after takeoff from a backcountry airstrip near Ozark in Arkansas.

“ASI’s Real Pilot Story series allows pilots to share their encounter with a dilemma so others can benefit—while comfortable on the ground—from lessons learned the hard way in flight,” said AOPA Air Safety Institute Senior Director Paul Deres. “In this case, high-density altitude conditions existing that afternoon and the pilot’s lack of proficiency in the Cessna 170 affected the flight’s outcome. Thankfully—in spite of the accident’s traumatic aftermath—the couple and a pilot who witnessed the accident are able to share their story with other pilots,” Deres concluded.
