Check out Rock the Ramp, the annual party held the Friday before AirVenture at C29 (Morey Field) in Middleton, Wisconsin. What started in 2016 as a small, local get-together has grown the past few years into a gathering for visiting pilots, world-renowned aerobatic performers like Michael Goulian, and Madison-area locals alike. Capital Flight, a flight school and Cirrus and Husky dealer, hosts the open house-style event, which includes live music, food and drinks, an airshow, and a laser light show.

Morey Field has a paved and turf runway surface, both in excellent condition. If you have never done a true soft-field landing, the well-maintained, wide turf Runway 1/19 is a great place for a first timer.

Why you should go: Start the week of OSH off right with an airport party and airshow.

Rock the Ramp bills itself as the “world’s largest pre-Oshkosh” fly-in, and the low-key but growing event is worth a stop. All proceeds are donated to Badger Honor Flight, a regional affiliate of the Honor Flight Network that offers veterans the opportunity to experience Washington, D.C.’s war memorials.
