Multiple organizations aim to expand aviation education opportunities by offering scholarships for aviation enthusiasts from all backgrounds who plan to pursue a career in different niches of the industry.
Skyborne Airline Academy has recently launched the Airline Academy program, a 10-month course for aspiring pilots who want to complete their private pilot and commercial certificates, and instrument rating. In tandem with the program, Skyborne has also announced a scholarship program targeted toward graduates of the organization's Airline Academy Program who wish to become flight instructors at Skyborne.
“The Skyborne CFI Scholarship is an exciting prospect because it opens the door for Airline Academy trainees to continue their flying at a professional level with complete financial support across multiple instructor qualifications,” said Ed Davidson, managing director of Skyborne.
The application window closes on October 31. Register interest and check out the website for more information about the academy and a scholarship deadline countdown.
Students who are interested in exploring a career in the U.S. armed forces should check out the Aim High Flight Academy (AHFA) scholarship opportunity sponsored by the U.S. Air Force. This introductory flight program is held over a period of three weeks at various colleges and universities across the country.
Described by the Air Force as “a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-based, aviation-focused, motivation and mentorship program designed to increase diversity in the aviation career field,” this program is targeted toward high school students ages 16 through 18 and ROTC and Air Force Academy cadets.
The AHFA program offers room, board, and flight time covered entirely by Air Force scholarships. Selected students will learn about the pathway to becoming an Air Force officer and complete up to 15 hours of flight.
Review the eligibility requirements and application information on the Air Force website. The application window for this scholarship is open now and closes November 30.
Investing in the future of business aviation
Scholarships in the aviation sector are not just for those interested in flight training. The National Aircraft Finance Association has scholarships available for students who are hoping to pursue a career in the business aviation sectors of finance, legal, and insurance—who are prioritizing coursework in accounting, business marketing, economics, and/or finance with a focus on aviation business or aviation management.
By offering these scholarships—worth between $1,000 and $5,000 at the discretion of NAFA's board—NAFA hopes to support the growth and education of future business aviation leaders.
Eligible applicants should apply through their university's financial aid office, which should submit the application to NAFA by October 31.
For more information, visit the NAFA website.
With Boeing forecasting a need for 610,000 new technicians in the next 20 years, it's important to invest in scholarships for maintenance technicians. The Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance is well ahead of the curve—since 2002, AWAM has been awarding scholarships to women and students for aviation maintenance education.
The 2023 AWAM scholarship program has over a dozen scholarship opportunities available for organization members (if you need to apply for membership or renew, find information here), with applications due by November 15.
The scholarship flyer, which outlines the required scholarship documentation and available scholarships, and the link to the scholarship application can be found on the AWAM website.
