Question of the Week
Question

I would like to earn a private pilot certificate with glider rating and a sport pilot certificate. Would adding on a glider certificate after earning the sport pilot certificate limit me to piloting light sport sailplanes under 10,000 feet mean sea level/2,000 feet above the ground in fair weather during daylight hours, or would it provide all the privileges of a private glider certificate while operating a sailplane?
Answer
You would exercise the privileges of the certificate under which you're flying. When flying a glider, you would adhere to the limitations of the glider certificate, and when flying utilizing your sport pilot certificate you would adhere to those limitations. Similarly, a commercial fixed-wing pilot who added on a rotorcraft private pilot certificate wouldn't be limited to private pilot privileges on the commercial fixed-wing certificate as a result of earning the rotorcraft certificate at the private level.
