FBOProps crowdsources memorable aviation experiences

FBOProps, a new social app for airport experiences, is designed to help pilots and their loved ones find memorable general aviation destinations by gathering reviews and other airport information from fellow aviators.

Following a bad experience at an FBO on his way back from a trip to the beach, Josh Harrell, FBOProps founder, said, “I was looking for a way to crowdsource aviation…consider it Yelp! for pilots and nonpilots.”

Launched in August, the program’s mission is “to expose as many awesome aviation experiences as possible in effort to make GA safer and more enjoyable for aviators and aspiring aviators,” Harrell said. “That’s what’s great about the app,” he continued. “It gives loved ones, friends, and passengers an engaging way to get involved in trip planning.”

With FBOProps airport visitors can share their experiences, what services were available, and any other helpful tips or potential criticisms they may have regarding their visit. Through these reviews, the app seeks to become the go-to source of airport facilities offerings by providing information on approaches and departures; ground operations; line crews; and available services like food, crew cars, flight training, and other distinguishing features.

The app is currently in phase one, and only open to individual users, but with phase two, Harrell explained, FBOs will become part of the conversation with portal access to provide real-time, contextual information about their facilities and promote events like fly-ins and airshows. FBOs will also have the opportunity to communicate with aviators and visitors who may have left them a review.

Phase two will also include the addition of private-use, seaplane, glider, and helicopter facilities.

Currently FBOProps depends on user participation to be successful. Visit the website to learn more. FBOProps is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
