Clubs keep flying affordable for many pilots, and if you can't find one, make one. Read AOPA's story about pilots who did not only that but also opened a maintenance shop where AOPA Senior Photographer David Tulis found Harry Santossoto working on the club's fleet. Final Exam
Question

I'm buying an airplane for personal use, and I understand I need to pay sales tax in the state in which it will be domiciled. I have houses in two different states, and expect the airplane to be in each about half of the time. Where do I file and pay the tax?
Answer
The answer may depend on factors including the physical location of the aircraft and the address of the registered owner. It is a good idea to speak to an attorney who knows tax laws in both states as they apply to aircraft. (Consultations with attorneys who are well versed in aviation law are among the benefits available through AOPA's Pilot Protection Services.) Join the discussion >
