Spring into scholarships

Triple Tree Aerodrome’s Aviation Centered Education program is offering four $2,500 scholarships to individuals ages 16 through 20 who have not yet soloed in a powered aircraft. Scholarship winners will be required to complete private pilot ground school and 25 hours of community service at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, South Carolina, before funds are awarded. Applicants must supply a high school transcript; a letter of recommendation; and a one-page essay detailing academic, professional, and aviation-related goals. The scholarship window opens on March 1 and closes on March 7. Winners will be announced on April 2 during Uncle John’s Fly-In on April 2 at Triple Tree.

Southwest Airlines is offering 20 scholarships valued up to $5,000 for individuals 24 years old or younger who are interested in pursuing careers in the airline industry. Applicable career paths include “frontline operations, customer service and hospitality, aircraft maintenance, dispatch, engineering, flight operations; as well as corporate positions such as finance, technology, human resources, marketing, sales, and communications.” Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an applicable degree program or be able to demonstrate interest in an airline industry career by internship, work, or extracurricular activities. Applicants must possess a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA and must be attending or planning to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the upcoming fall or spring semester. Applications are due by March 18.

Sugarbush Soaring is offering two scholarships valued at $3,400 each to one African American student aged 13 to 18 and one female, transgender, or nonbinary student aged 13 to 18 to attend the Sugarbush Soaring Overnight Youth Soaring Camp in Warren, Vermont. The camp is a weeklong event that includes 10 instructional flights, meals, ground school, supervised overnight camping, and other activities. The scholarship covers the entire cost of the camp. Applicants must fill out an online questionnaire, request an application form via email, and provide one letter of recommendation. The deadline to apply is March 15 and the winners will be announced no later than March 31.

Ladies Love Taildraggers is offering a $2,000 tailwheel endorsement scholarship in memory of aerobatic pilot Jacquie Warda. The scholarship is open to female pilots at least 17 years old with a minimum of a sport pilot certificate. Applicants must have a current flight review, medical/BasicMed, and participate in telephone interviews (if selected). Scholarship applicants must also state why they would like to earn a tailwheel endorsement and provide a statement of financial need. Emailed applications are due on April 15.

The International Stinson Club is awarding four scholarships worth up to $500 in reimbursements for pilots who complete their tailwheel endorsement. Applicants must submit an essay explaining why they should be one of the recipients as well as a picture, home airport information, total pilot-in-command time, ratings, and the type of aircraft to be used. Applications must be sent as a Word document via email to Jody Jones, president of the International Stinson Club, by July 1. Winners will be announced on July 25 at the International Stinson Club dinner during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
