The program will award $1,219,497 to 138 recipients this year (awardees notified after May 31, 2022).
Made possible through donations to the AOPA Foundation, scholarships are available in multiple categories, including primary (sport, recreational, and private pilot) certification, instrument rating, and aviation maintenance technician certification. There are also up to 100 scholarships at $10,000 each for high school students and teachers to train for their private pilot certificate. Scholarship awards range from $2,500 to $14,000.
In order to receive any of the scholarships offered through AOPA, you must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident and an AOPA member at the time of application and award. Some scholarships also require applicants to meet additional criteria. Submit only one application, which is considered for all scholarships that you are eligible.
The 2023 scholarship program will open again in the fall.
