Garmin has boosted the endurance of a pocket satellite transceiver that can be handy for anyone needing to reach the world from remote locations.
Listed at $399.99, inReach Mini 2 is just under 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide and weighs 3.5 ounces. The battery allows up to 14 days of continuous run time in the default tracking mode (location tracked every 10 minutes). Those facing a longer stay in the great north woods can extend the battery life to 30 days by setting the tracking function to 30-minute intervals.
The device connects with a wide range of Garmin electronics, and a TracBack feature allows users to retrace their steps with visual guidance from the device. An electronic compass displays heading accurately, even when stationary, and inReach Mini 2 leverages the GALILEO, QZSS, and BeiDou satellite networks to speed initial acquisition, Garmin reported in the news release.
“Whether on a casual afternoon hike or climbing a mountain on an extended expedition, inReach Mini 2 is the perfect choice for a rugged, ultra-light tool to help you stay connected with friends and family around the clock. Its compact size, robust location features, and significantly increased battery life add peace of mind to any trip without adding weight to your pack,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales, in the news release. “Moments of communication can become critical on any adventure and the best plan is to always be prepared, which is why Garmin satellite communicators, like inReach Mini 2, have become trusted tools for anyone who ventures outdoors.”
