HAI Heli-Expo 2021 canceled

The dramatic rise in coronavirus cases across the United States forced Helicopter Association International leaders to reevaluate hosting HAI Heli-Expo, scheduled for March 22 to 25 in New Orleans, and ultimately cancel the event altogether.

HAI made the decision to cancel after speaking with exhibitors and stakeholders in the helicopter industry who “expressed discomfort with the logistics involved in business travel at this time,” HAI President James Viola explained.

The association’s leaders had worked to ensure that the event would comply with health and safety protocols but “had to adjust course in response to changing conditions,” Voila said. “HAI firmly believes that the flexibility that our industry has demonstrated throughout this pandemic will help our businesses and individuals persevere and strengthen.”

HAI said that it would “redirect its efforts” to Heli-Expo 2022, which is scheduled to take place in Dallas from March 7 through 10. The event brings the helicopter industry together to allow attendees to network, learn from educational and safety seminars, and “conduct $2 billion in business,” HAI said.

Those who had already registered for the event will receive a refund.

HAI Heli-Expo is the third aviation event to cancel in 2021. The one-day drive-in, fly-in scheduled in Deland, Florida, for January 30, has been canceled, and Arizona’s Buckeye Air Fair has transitioned to a virtual Aviation Week February 7 through 13. Women in Aviation had already decided to host a virtual conference in March, and the National Business Aviation Association has also switched several of its events to a virtual format.
