There are many paths to becoming an airline pilot. Some start young, focus on getting certificates and ratings quickly, moving on to a regional airline, and then a major airline as soon as possible. Others take a more circuitous route.
Jeremy King is a pilot for a major airline, a career he had never envisioned as a kid. King was always drawn to mechanical things and working with his hands. A mentor introduced him to aviation and soon he was an airframe and powerplant mechanic, and later became a pilot. Along the way he worked for an airshow act, fixed aerial applicators, and did some flight instruction. His initial goal was never to be an airline pilot, but it’s a career he truly enjoys.
In this episode of Flight Time, a series of Hangar Talk’s best interviews for the Flight Training audience, we talk to King about his path to the airlines, and what advice he has for the next generation.
