Final Exam
Question

Why do I get fined for flying over a wildlife preserve?
Answer
Flight over wildlife preserves is not prohibited by the FAA. However, according to section 7-4-6 of the Aeronautical Information Manual, pilots should maintain an altitude of at least 2,000 feet agl when overflying. Certain federal or state agencies having jurisdiction over these areas may impose a fine for overflights that violate the minimum altitude.

For more information, see this discussion in our online Pilot Information Center, where you can ask questions, contribute answers, earn badges, and join our growing pilot community online. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
