Garmin’s G1000 NXi flight deck is now available for retrofit in Piper Meridians, following FAA certification of the upgrade for G1000-equipped aircraft.
The August 19 announcements from Garmin International Inc. and Piper Aircraft Inc. noted that the newest iteration of the G1000, the G1000 NXi, brings faster processors that render maps more quickly, and initializes in seconds on startup, allowing quick access to communications and flight planning functions.
Other advances include SurfaceWatch runway monitoring technology, visual approach guidance for VFR operations based on a 3-degree glideslope to the runway threshold, and a map overlay within the horizontal situation indicator that layers Nexrad, Flight Information Services-Broadcast (FIS-B) weather, weather radar, SafeTaxi airport diagrams, traffic, terrain, and other information. The Piper Meridian is the legacy version of the Piper M600, the single-engine turboprop at the top of Piper’s line.
