Tribute to transportation workers
Lawmakers tweet thanks to essential employees
Messages of gratitude, support, and praise for our nation’s transportation workers flooded Twitter on April 21 as part of a Congressional tribute to essential employees during the coronavirus pandemic.
Hosted by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the bipartisan tweetstorm garnered much support from individuals, industries, and associations like AOPA, thanking those on the front lines who have been keeping the United States moving.
Pilots and flight attendants were among those applauded, as the aviation sector has been hit hard during this national emergency. But despite the challenges, the industry has proven to be a critical resource—with humanitarian flights and the transportation of much-needed medical supplies, cargo, and personnel.
Airlines for America recognized the aviation workforce tweeting “Thanks #ToThoseWhoKeepUsMoving during #COVID19, including 750,000 men and women in the U.S. airline industry—pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, gate agents, and others.”
Members of Congress also chimed in, including Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) and ranking member Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), who thanked workers in sectors that included aviation, maritime, transit, and railroads.
