Much to do and see in Tullahoma

AOPA’s return to Tullahoma, Tennessee, for the final fly-in of 2019 will be a blast.

Especially on Friday night, visitors can expect to be entertained with an array of aviation performances and activities. From a short takeoff and landing demonstration to aerobatic performances and a nighttime drone show, the time to be in Tennessee is September 13 and 14.

AOPA is returning to Tullahoma Regional Airport (THA); we last visited here in 2015. There’s so much more to experience this time around. First, it’s now a two-day show with the chance to experience educational seminars (free) and ground school workshops (paid) on both days, or to pick a day for learning and a day for fun. Pilot Town Halls with AOPA President Mark Baker will be held on both days, and exhibits will be open both Friday and Saturday.

Friday night promises to be jam-packed with cool things to see and do. Wrangler Jimmy Gist will host a STOL invitational highlighting competition between an exciting lineup of aircraft for the shortest takeoffs and landings. A flightline cookout and campfire will follow, with performances by Lee Lauderback in his P–51 Mustang and biplane aerobatics master Jeremy Holt. Then, as the sun sets on a Tennessee autumn evening, the Great Lakes Drone Co. will present a lighted drone show, weather permitting.

Of course, the pancake breakfasts each morning, seminars, tours of the Beechcraft Heritage Museum (see p. 44), aircraft displays, and so much more that you’ve come to expect from an AOPA Fly-In will contribute to making this a great weekend in the South. RSVP and let us know you’re coming or sign up to volunteer.
