Autopilot manufacturer TruTrak Flight Systems announced receiving FAA approval to install its Vizion autopilot in Cessna 180, 182, 185, and Piper PA–32 single-engine airplanes.
Springdale, Arkansas-based TruTrak, a player in the experimental and light sport aircraft market since 1999, expanded into the certified segment in 2017. It now has “well over 100 pre-orders for these aircraft and has already begun production of the autopilot systems for these and future orders,” TruTrak said in a March 27 announcement in advance of the Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In and Expo in Florida.
The Vizion autopilot system can track flight plans, hold altitude, climb and descend at selected vertical speeds, and offers altitude select/pre-select. It also prevents overspeed and underspeed, and an emergency level button and bank-angle protection mode help avoid loss of control.
AOPA reported in February 2018 that TruTrak had added several Cessna and Piper aircraft model lines to the autopilot’s approved model list and planned to devote the remainder of that year to adding new models, including those just announced.
“We are so excited to be able to offer this great autopilot for even more aircraft,” said TruTrak CEO Andrew Barker. “While it took longer than we had wished to get these new models approved, it was worth the wait.”
With TruTrak holding the STC, “EAA will be less involved going forward, but we are still very grateful for their advocacy and hard work. We are more committed than ever to making sure that this process continues to get easier and faster, allowing us to add even more aircraft in the near future,” Barker said.
