May is GA Appreciation Month in Nebraska

Members of the GA community joined the governor May 14 in a public event to recognize the benefits aviation provides to Nebraskans.

The gubernatorial proclamation, noting that “direct congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding” of the aviation system, acknowledged the contributions to Nebraska’s well-being of its more than 80 public-use airports, 3,566 pilots, and 2,175 GA aircraft.

Nebraska also is home to 70 fixed-base operators, 13 repair stations, and three FAA-approved flight schools.

The state’s $1.2 billion GA economy supports 7,900 jobs, and “improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, and disaster relief,” it added.

The proclamation recognized aviation organizations including AOPA for promoting “the interests and importance of general aviation in Nebraska and throughout the world.”
