The meaning of SBD
When World War II broke out, no aircraft was more critical to spotting the enemy at sea in the Pacific Theater and dealing them devastating body blows than the Douglas SBD Dauntless. The two-place, 1,200-horsepower scout and dive bomber is known for its long-range capability and the ability to send an adversary's warships to the bottom. SBD referred officially to the airplane's identification as a scout bomber by Douglas Aircraft—but the initials earned the aircraft the nickname "slow but deadly." Several examples remain flyable or on display.
Final Exam
Question

With my U.S. private pilot certificate, can I fly a Canadian-registered Cessna Skyhawk in Canada? Can I fly the same airplane in the United States?
Answer
You may fly that airplane in the United States, and you may fly a U.S.-registered airplane in any country you can legally enter. However, to fly a Canadian-registered airplane in Canada, you must hold a pilot certificate, or a foreign license validation certificate, issued by Transport Canada, the Canadian civil aviation authority.

Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
